The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score will now be known as the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. Though the name is new, the scoring methodology and other aspects of the program have not changed. We believe this change in name more accurately reflects the nature of the rating and will enhance stakeholder understanding of the program. The name change is reflected on the Safety Grade Review Website for hospitals and in materials for hospitals. The name change will be reflected on the public website (www.HospitalSafetyGrade.org) with the October release of updated Safety Grades.
The Data Review Period (September 14 – October 4, 2016) has closed and this website has been refreshed with final numerical scores and letter grades. By accessing the Safety Grade Review Website, you will be able to:
- Review the source data used to calculate your hospital’s final numerical score.
- Download a copy of the Hospital Safety Grade calculator and the scoring methodology.
- Preview your hospital’s final numerical score and confidential Hospital Safety Grade.
Updated procedure for Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade preview
In previous years, Leapfrog confidentially shared the final Hospital Safety Grades with hospitals 48 hours in advance of the public announcement. In response to requests from hospitals and others, Leapfrog is now implementing a two-week embargo period for hospitals to preview their grades.
Leapfrog’s public announcement and website refresh of updated Hospital Safety Grades is scheduled for October 31. During this embargo period, you may share the grade preview with your hospital leadership, but you may not release any information to your staff or the public. The embargo will lift at 12:01am ET on October 31.
